Michael J. Rehberg

Senior Vice President, Information Technology

Michael Rehberg has spent his career building technology at a scale where reliability and trust are inseparable. As Senior Vice President, Information Technology at Expion Health, he leads technology delivery, overseeing the teams responsible for building, maintaining and scaling the platform behind Expion’s prescription cost management solutions, from daily operations through new client implementations.

Michael’s focus is creating systems that perform consistently and predictably as the business grows. That means building the processes, structures and teams that allow Expion to deliver on its commitments without relying on heroics. For Michael, getting the technology right has a direct human impact: reliable claims processing, data exchange and client implementations ultimately support people’s ability to access and afford their medications.

Michael brings more than 25 years of enterprise IT leadership, including more than 15 years dedicated to PBM and health plan technology. He spent eight years as CIO of a claims platform processing 1.5 million transactions each day for 14 million members, leading a 250-person IT organization responsible for keeping it running reliably around the clock. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management Computer Systems.

What’s your Expion factor superpower?

Bringing structure to complexity. In an industry where the stakes are high and the variables are many, my superpower is quickly identifying what matters most, building the framework to get there and aligning the right people around it.

What quote represents your personal philosophy?

“The best leaders are those whose team doesn’t notice they are being led.”

My goal has never been to be the smartest person in the room. It has always been to build the room. I’m at my best when I’m developing the people, processes and culture that allow a team to do their best work independently, consistently and with confidence.

I believe every team has stars waiting to emerge. My job is to create the environment where they can — give people clarity, remove the obstacles, back them when it matters, and then get out of the way. That is when you see what people are truly capable of. The measure of my success is not what I deliver. It’s the stars my team becomes.

When you’re not busy moving pharmacy forward, what can we find you doing?

You’ll likely find me outside, whether I’m skiing, riding an ATV or motorcycle, boating, hiking or snowshoeing. If it involves fresh air and a little adventure, I’m in.
